Special Educational Needs ( SEND)

Willoughby is a caring and supportive school committed to providing a high-quality education for all of the children in our care. We believe that all children are entitled to have access to a broad and balanced curriculum across all aspects of school life. We are committed to maximum inclusion in quality first teaching environments to meet individual children’s needs and foster learning for individuals.

‘Staff work together to support pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). They have high expectations of what pupils with SEND will be able to do, and make sure that they get the right help to access the same curriculum as their peers.’ Ofsted, November 2021.

SEND can cover a wide range of physical or sensory impairments; learning difficulties; communication difficulties; and social, emotional and mental health. If you have any concerns about your child’s learning at any time, please speak to the class teacher in the first instance.

Our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) is Mrs Alice Smith.

The Nottinghamshire SEND Local Offer website brings together information and services all in one place, to help support children and young people (from 0 to 25 years-old) with SEND, and their families. It includes useful information about things to do, education, getting around, preparing for adulthood, health and social care, short breaks, and the young people’s zone.
