Before Spring half term, the Reception children had been looking at Superheroes as part of their Knowledge and Understanding of the World.

They had explored the different roles of people who support their community making observations of their role, uniforms and transport; our real -life heroes.

During this topic Class 1 had a surprise visit from the West Bridgford Fire Service. The children were all very excited to meet the firefighter team and explore the fire engine.

They learnt first hand about the hoses, ladders, cutting equipment and breathing apparatus. They also took turns to sit in the cab. During the visit they listen to a talk on fire alarms, how the alarms sound when tested and how to respond to get out of the house calmly and safely if an alarm was activated.

They finally waved goodbye to the firefighters with the blue lights flashing and a quick burst of the siren.
