Our class 2 children have been on their educational visit to the National Civil War Centre in Newark, which was a wonderful experience to enrich their work in history.
The children learned about the causes of the Civil War and worked together to demonstrate the ‘Pyramid of Power’. They then enjoyed dressing as soldiers, handling replica weapons and practising battle formations!
In our mock battle the parliamentarians won, reflecting historical events! After lunch, a guided walk along the Civil War Trail around the town in the afternoon sunshine really brought the morning’s learning to life. Our guide pointed out buildings and locations directly linked to the Civil War.

The children were delighted to be able to dress up in clothing from the period. The armour was particularly popular and we were all amazed at how heavy it was. We were also impressed by the length of the weapon known as a pike.
We could not imagine how soldiers managed to fight dressed in such heavy armour and with such unwieldy weapons.
