This term some of our children have been learning about the ancient Mayan civilisation in history lessons.

As a cross-curricular activity, they worked on creating these fantastic Mayan masks in their Design & Technology lessons.

Mayan masks were made out of jade, stone, wood, and shell amongst other materials, but we chose to make our from papier mache!

The children learnt about the history and use of the masks – for example, they were worn at important events and when going into battle – and decorated their masks in their own take on the Mayan style.
